It's time to take your statistics skills to the next level. If you're like most students you've seen a bit of stat in your calculus course and learned how to use SPSS (or maybe even SAS) in your marketing class. You know that there is more than just what you were taught, but it's hard to know where to go and how to learn this new stuff on your own. It can be overwhelming and really frustrating when you don't know what steps and resources are out there for you. My job is to help you find your way and give you the tools and resources necessary to go from good to great in no time. I am a math and statistics teacher who has been teaching in Delhi, Ohio since 2001. I'm not an expert on SPSS or SAS, but I do know that only after mastering multiple statistics packages can you move into the custom programming arena. Not only will I help you figure out which package is right for you, but cover the basics of what each package can do for you in this course. You will learn to read data, manage variables, create graphs and charts, do statistics, and much more. The course is broken down into three sections: Getting Started with SPSS, Beyond SPSS 1.0, and Beyond SPSS 3.0. The first section covers the basics of using SPSS or SAS package to enter data, analyze it with built in macros and commands (based on the package), print graphs for your report or presentations. The second section covers how to customize the software by creating your own functions based on what you're already familiar with (if you were once taught that Excel was the best fit for you then this may be the section for you). You will learn how to create your own functions and use them in the macros. We will also look at creating your own data set, tables, and graphs. The last section is where I take you beyond all of the functionality of the original software. In this section, we will create a custom dataset from scratch, then tailor transformations in each package based on that dataset . A student from my class has been able to go from being a SAS beginner to building his own datasets for report writing in a month's time! What took him so long was not understanding what data they were trying to collect and how it would be transformed.
